Meth Free Indiana Coalition Meeting Notice

The MFI Coalition will meet on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. in the Teleconference Room of the Indiana Government Center South.
ICJI has contracted with Strategic Applications International (SAI) LLC to work as consultants to assist in the development of Indiana’s State-wide Strategic Plan on Methamphetamine. Colleen and James Copple are nationally known experts in the field of strategic planning as it relates to methamphetamine. Since 2000, the Copples have used their talents and expertise in helping communities combat the scourge of methamphetamine. Recognizing meth’s wide and deep swath of destruction, SAI has developed a planning process that promotes “vertical” and “horizontal” collaboration to fight the drug. This process enlists the Governor, state agencies, U.S. Attorneys, mayors, police chiefs, judges prosecutors, probation and parole officers, child protective agents, treatment and prevention specialists, educators, public health officials, environmental agencies, fire officials, HAZMAT experts, community leaders, retailers, and even realtors to join in this effort. The planning process uses a practical and effective logic model to gather input from numerous participants in a short amount of time and produce actionable recommendations through a three-step process of identifying problems, barriers, and solutions related to methamphetamine production, distribution and use. The Copples have worked in developing such plans in West Virginia, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Georgia, Montana, Oregon, South Dakota, Ohio, Hawaii, Washington (twice), Oklahoma, Kentucky, Arkansas, and California. Colleen played a lead role in the 2002 Midwestern Governors’ Summit on Methamphetamine and in 2005 James conducted the wrap-up workshop for the 2005 Midwestern Governors’ Summit on Methamphetamine.
Colleen will be attending the February 8, 2006, meeting of the MFI Coalition to discuss the planning process for Indiana. All members, new and old, of the MFI Coalition are strongly urged to attend this meeting. Indiana’s Strategic Plan on Methamphetamine will encompass all of the segments named above. This comprehensive approach will lead by Governor Daniels be the first of its kind in the nation. While other states have developed strategic plans to address methamphetamine, none have taken such a comprehensive approach. Like the Indiana Methamphetamine Data Repository, the eyes of the nation are on Indiana and our Governor’s Meth Initiative approach in dealing with the impact that this drug is having on the state.
Please RSVP to Rosemary Clark rclark@cji.in.gov no later than Tuesday, February 7, 2006.
